Virginia “Jenny” Johnson-Kappes, class of 1972, was a star softball player—she was named to the United States Slow-pitch Softball Association Hall of Fame—and has coached multiple sports at different colleges, including Indiana University, South Dakota State University, University of Minnesota, and Franklin College. Johnson-Kappes, in addition to coaching basketball, field hockey, and softball at Franklin, was also a professor of physical education. In 2007, she received the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from the college. While no longer working at Franklin, one of the ways Johnson-Kappes’ legacy remains is the Jenny Johnson-Kappes award, given each year to one senior female athlete. This collection consists of newspaper articles, a resume, and other primary sources.
